DIY Green: Recycled Yellow Pages Card Holder
It’s that time of year in my neighborhood, piles of phonebooks in yellow plastic bags on every porch. With the Internet at our disposal these pages of information are much less useful. Yet designer Afroditi Krassa has a simple solution that anyone can copy.
Using different diameter metal rings Afroditi has created elegant and interesting card or picture holders. Yet with a little creativity other items could be incorporated, like a cut PET soda bottle or aluminum beer can. Also, by altering the lengths of the rolled pages (but cutting the phone book down to size), or by capping one end, both ends, or the middle, many variations can be achieved.
The one above I fired out myself in about 5 minutes.
1. First I gathered my supplies and drained a beer.
2. I took a beer can and cut off the top
2. Next I ripped the cover off the phone book and split it down the spine about 1/3 of the way through or an inch in thickness.
Finally I rolled it and snuggly fit in into the can so it was sticking out enough to slot in cards etc.
Afroditi may have produced a more elegant product but the utility is the same. Check out the variations on this theme.
